Additional Information

There is no separation between my art and my life. When I overflow with emotions they eventually spill out on my canvas. That’s why this body of work is so diverse in its subject matter.

In the past few months I was confronted with the traumatic experience of having to say goodbye to my mother. My mum adored her family, her garden and the sea.

The sunset on the beach represents the last chance to enjoy the colours and warmth of the sun. When the last ray is gone there is no more of that day. My mother was my sun and the night has arrived.  Just because we cannot see the sun anymore it doesn’t mean that it is not shining, I know that. She is shining beyond the horizon line, and I am left to deal with the turmoil of this aching loss.

My mother’s garden was incredible. She could grow all sorts of flowers and plants. She loved flowers of all colours and sizes, and they loved her back. I inherited my love for my garden from her. My mother’s plants are now scattered around my garden and each flower now reminds me of her love.

I dedicate my works to her, to my mother Tonina, whom I adore more than she will ever know.
