Muse by Marijke Lambregtse – An original acrylic painting on quality canvas, stretched and ready to hang.

‘In mythology, the Muses were nine goddesses who symbolized the arts and sciences. Today, a muse is a person who serves as an artist’s inspiration. Writers, painters, musicians, and other artists have muses. Muse can also refer to thinking deeply. If you muse about something, you’re giving it serious thought. You can’t muse in five seconds. People muse on certain ideas for years’.

Muse is inspired by the drawing I made in a draw along workshop with Bill Platz. Although it doesn’t represent the model fully, I tried to recreate the atmosphere and create a certain mood I felt then. What is she thinking, is she contemplating about something in the past or in the future. Is she concerned about something or just reflecting on a beautiful memory. It could be anything.

Also an inspiration was the female painter Helene Schjerfbeck, a Finnish modernist painter who did not receive a favourable reception until later in her life.
