Additional Information

Morning has broken me  – I haven’t been up for the sunrise with such regularity since the children were born. And, just like new mothers, I did not listen to the warnings about the disruption that a new puppy can cause. But we love him. He stole his way into our hearts, bit by bit, until we noticed that we laughed more. The teenagers were spending more time out of their bedrooms, we started meeting new people in the parks and streets as the puppy wrenched us away from our work and electronic devices. But the early mornings don’t get much easier. This painting is done in a “Zorn palette”, used by Swedish artist Anders Zorn in the 1800s. It consists of just ivory black, white, yellow ochre and vermillion. All colours are mixed from that – even those that look blue and green – though I confess to using touches of turquoise in the painting behind the shadowy figure.
