Moo’ral by Jules Baldwin

I have always loved the first marks of my paintings but never really been game to leave them uncovered, choosing instead to cover them with layers of paint, this often works very well but for this series I have decided to pare them right back to celebrate those very first marks that reveal the very essence of my process, the energy tangible in each mark, authentic and often chaotic, this is me unveiled and in my element I have to say

This painting was inspired by the pictures and the map that is often shown with the different cuts of meat you can get from a cow.I am a veggie so I don’t eat cows or any other animal, so for me it is always quite sad to see a beautiful creature reduced to cuts of meat. I know that we have been doing it for many years and so it is an acceptable part of our every day life, still it is something I find quite sad personally. I don’t usually use my work for any other agenda than to make people smile but sometimes my views will creep into a work as they did with this one. Moo’ral also inspired me to continue using my lines and spontaneity with paint and mixed media, keeping the image minimal and allowing the viewer to search and find the details to describe the form. I have gone on to produce three other very colourful cows which you can see in my collection.
