  • Metz Gorge Armidale

Additional Information

This abstract painting was created after an expedition to the Wild Oxley River National Parks near Armidale and inspired by a series of plein air paintings while there. The emensity and depth of the gorges are hard to process.  The way the light creates these strong geometric lines in peaks and troughs, broken up by a series of waterfall marks dividing the craggy spaces are truly awe inspiring.  In this work I wanted to concentrate on presenting flowing forms and strong lines and height to the escarpments.  Depending on available sunlight and weather conditions the colours and shapes are ever changing as the shadows morph and warp across the imposing landscape. This acrylic painting was Highly Commended in the recent Sawtell Art Prize this year.
