I paint abstractly, endeavouring to express a feeling of place within colour and marks to create work that has the ability to be felt by the viewer and not deliberated upon. I explore themes that expand on my journey through life. I draw inspiration from my surrounding environment, places I have lived and travelled.

Painting with cold wax media offers an appealing range of options to explore and play: the ability to layer, to obscure and excavate, to engrave and inlay lines, variations in transparency and opacity, saturation and subtlety of colour, and texture is forever exciting to work with. Cold wax medium rich and exciting to work with.

To successfully and reliably communicate in a direct way, I believe abstract painters must understand the basic tenets of their craft, such as colour, line, form, qualities of surface, and gesture. Above all the painting must be a fun and playful experience.

‘Loneliness of the Soul’ is a cold wax, mixed media painting on birch panel. The panel has been sealed with Liquitex professional matte medium with two coats of Atelier traditional gesso primer applied before I began layering the cold wax and oil medium.

I chose not to frame this work.  The work is professionally produced using only the best quality paints. It will not fade or warp.
