Additional Information

Life in Death – The Lament of Cyparissus by Natasha Zraikat. This is a work from my ‘Life in Death’ series. Through symbolism, story and myth, this series observes the fragile and often complex relationship between humanity and the world in which it exists.

This work is my modern depiction of the story of Cyparissus of Greek Mythology, a beloved friend of Apollo who one day accidentally killed his friend’s tamed stag. The boy’s grief was such that it transformed him into a Cypress tree, which is still known as a classical symbol of mourning.

In this work, I draw connection between this ancient myth and our modern truths.
