These paintings are a reflection of our fears of vulnerability. In our attempt to be composed, we suppressing our emotions. The truth is, our eyes never lie, regardless of what we choose to reveal.
Anthony wanted to reveal only the eyes of the subject, with the rest of the face painted in solid colours, either bold or neutral. The impasto techniques used in these paintings add dimension to these portraits, as if the subjects are covered in paint.
