Additional Information

This modern still life painting  ‘In my travels’ is a little collage of special memories I’ve put together from a trip I took almost 10 years ago, to Dubai and Morocco.

It combines my favourite plate, a handmade Turkish ceramic beauty purchased in Dubai, and the colours from the Marjorelle gardens in Morocco, which I had wanted to see for a long time.

I love the plate and the garden as they are in my favourite ever colour- ultramarine blue.
Jacques Marjorelle was an artist who created the garden and painted it in this blue, the garden was then bought by Yves St Laurent, but it is open to the public these days. I highly recommend googling or visiting these gardens!

Now as to the plate, where is it you ask? Well I reinterpreted it as the vase! Turkish ceramics are stunning. I liked the idea of a vase rather than a plate for this piece though, so incorporated the colours and patterns from the plate into this vase.
Ultramarine blue, plus my plate (vase), and the memories of the Marjorelle gardens, will forever remind me of the awesome travels I got to have through some middle Eastern countries. I had been captivated by these countries from about 10 years old, when I first read a novel set in the middles East. It took awhile, but when I did get to go there, it was almost magical, and so different than my own Australian culture.

So here is a collection of some of my favourite things, that hold a special place in my heart from my travels. I hope you enjoy! Signed on front by artist, SJW ’19.
