Additional Information

I am passionate about birds and on Kangaroo Island there are plenty of different species including endangered shore birds.

I use the Jabberwocky from the Lewis Carrol poem as a hidden scary thing. The Hooded Plover is a beach laying shore bird and endangered by many things, ravens, silver gulls, humans, dogs, the list goes on. They are the Jabberwocky.

This painting is part of series from ‘The Jabberwocky’.

Here the ‘Hoodies’ are trying to protect their eggs. They try to distract you, pretend they have a broken wing, lead you away from the nest. The eggs blend into the sand perfectly and it is difficult to see the nest, yet there are tiny tracks in the sand which can give away the location.

These birds are under protection and supported with research by BirdLife Australia.

Acrylic on stretched canvas with hardwood stretchers.
