Ghearra – Tayvonne Cora by Jeska Valk

Tayvonne Cora is the daughter of Luther Cora, a leader of the Yugambeh Language Group (from the East Coast of Australia). With her father and family, she shares her rich culture through the art of dance. Embodying past generations, she wears traditional garments, painted with ochre, representing her individual animal totem, Ghearra, the Sulphur-crested Cockatoo. Passed down through the generations, totems are given as an acknowledgment of their ancestry, signifying a link between the individual, the environment, and their spiritual ancestors.

Luther Cora, “I want to instill in my children to be proud of who they are, they are strong Indigenous people with a connection to this land.”
Tayvonne Cora stands strong representing the future. Following in her father’s footsteps she leads with her heart inspiring our community to come together.
