Additional Information

Full Bloom is a large, square format floral work in acrylic on deep sided stretched cotton duck, featuring white roses against a cream and turquoise and olive background. This work is unframed but ready to hang. The canvas sides are clean and raw.

The inspiration for this painting came from the roses in my own garden, plentiful and in full bloom. I wanted to create a pale coloured painting that still depicted the full body ad structure of the roses.

The paint was applied with a palette knife using broad, textured strokes for the roses and broad brush strokes for the greenery and background. The result is a contemporary approach to an impressionistic floral work.

I love the beauty of floral works and the power they have to bring joy to the viewer. Floral subjects also demand that the artist explore colour and texture combinations. I have especially sought to capture the open faced stance of the roses at their prime before they drop their petals, showing the transient nature of blooms.
