A latest piece of my on going series- “Flowers and Girls”.
In this series, I first started painting most of my self or my cousins, basically the people around me.
Same as my “Bloom like flowers” series”, flowers are the object represent life itself.
In this series I painting flowers in full bloom , a interpretation of the vitality, also a salute to the golden age .

This particular painting is Inspired by my sister, who is also the model of my another figure study – Morning Sunlight. You can see she had a hair cut, and a new hair colour In this piece.

I would like to talk about the girl in this painting and why I choose the flower to go along with her.

I have known this girl for many many years, by saying sister , we are not biological related, but close enough to call each other sister.
I’ve seen her got hurt, and bloom in love, love and trust like she have never had.
I’ve also seen her defeated by life , but never give up, laugh like she have never had,
I’ve seen her grown up from a girl to a women, getting more beautiful day by day, but still keep her pure heart.
A sincere, lovable, and courageous girl that I adore.

Grevillea – primarily native to Australia, are evergreen shrubs or trees of great beauty with needle-like to fern-like foliage and incredibly flamboyant flowers.
It has magnificent flowers in varied shapes and forms. Most have long flowering periods. The species I encountered in my neighborhood is peach and cream- has the most stunning, harmonic greenish- yellowy -pinkish colour hue.

In this painting , I have both the Grevillea Tree leaves in the background, as well as the shrubs flowers at front.
It’s one of my favorite tree. I adore the beauty of it every day I walk into the woods.

The bloom of it stands for Boldness, Strength and Courage.
Exactly what I would like to express in this piece.
The strength and beauty under the faint smile of every girl and women.

Artwork inspired by my sister, who is also the model of my figure study – Morning Sunlight at Melbourne ,Victoria, End of Winter, 2018.

Judges Comments:
{The figure has a nice elegant form defined and described by the use of blocks of tone and simplified line.
The limited colour range of the figure contrasts with the colourful, semi abstracted floral background making her face the focal point. The Red/ Pink of the lips is highlighted by the use of a similar colour in the grevilleas which helps to connect the two areas of the painting.
The detail of a few strands of hair curling over the cheek is a nice touch that prevents the hair looking too stiff.
The overall approach is fresh and loose.} -Judged by Wendy Havard.
