At the cave site with those flowers that bloom all night I wept to see the fruit fall as the tide of summer lit the stones. It was way too hot but there was still water dripping at the back of the cave. Somehow the heat cut the atmosphere, like a blade cutting a line. That line was a new rule, a new banishment, a new edge. My trees could do nothing against the hot wind but the mosses were a cool pillow for my head. I dreamt of the god tunnel that connects me to all creatures and it was there, in the dream, that I met the snake. Amongst rocks that had turned to glass in the heat, the serpent, descended from niches in the rock and already a part of my memoir, slithered into the river. It was then I realised my eyes were open.
