Devine

I’ve been experimenting quite a bit with nude drawings and paintings at the time of this piece – live drawing with a group in Robertson, NSW, exploring classical oil portraits and checking out some great nude artists online. Before Devine, I was working on another piece for ages. For some reason, I was never happy with it. One afternoon, I decided to take a break from that piece and out came Devine.

I used treated pine to make the frame for Devine. The timber for the frame is pretty dear so the dimensions I chose were the most efficient for the amount of wood I had  80W x 120H. Along with the higher quality timber frame, I also used high quality durable Belgian heavy-weight linen. To me, all my pieces are priceless and after spending so much time creating them, I want them to last a long time too.

I wanted to get away from some of the more classical academic style colours I had been using on previous pieces and decided to explore a more vibrant spectrum. I feel that it really works for Devine as she appears almost “realer” than life. Her whole being is rising upwards and gives me a sense of “overcoming adversity”.
