Additional Information

Cry of the River’ – a triptych.

A ‘soundscape’ of rain and thunder, water interacting with rock and plants, and mingling with birdsong.

Wild river,

over and over,
the sound of white.

Reeds and river

weaving the mist together.

Each rock in the stream
has its own sound.

There is something elemental, and powerful, and pure, in the sound of a wild river flowing. This painting seeks to portray the sound of water in an ecological context – the way the geography of the world itself makes sound.  The sounds do not exist in isolation, but in conjunction. In this work – an attentive description with a touch of synaesthesia* – the elements of the ‘geophony’ are placed in strategic resonance with one another.

 * someone with synaesthesia may hear colour or see sound

Flow Acrylic on three cradled plywood panels. Satin varnished with UV protection. Edges sealed with black lacquer. Ready to hang with D-rings and cable. Unframed.

Painted August 2021. Signed/dated bottom right. Shipped with certificate of authenticity.

Total width of triptych 183cm x 91cm.  Each panel 61cm x 91cm x 2cm.
