Crested Pigeon by Anica Amphlett is an original watercolour painting, 28cm x 38cm and is unframed.
The Crested Pigeon would have to be my favourite in the pigeon family. They have the most beautiful colours in their wings and are quite entertaining to watch especially during courtship. I have yet to witness their dancing routine in real life, as I was totally taken by it on video.
Lately when painting birds, I’ve been trying to bring out their personalities in poses, other than the most common side views. To do this, I pay a lot of attention to how they are made through their anatomy, watch them in real life, take videos to study later and review many photographs of them in different positions to come up with a believable stance.
