‘A Parallel Universe’ by Eva Horvath
‘A Parallel Unverse’ is an original painting in oil paint and mixed media on stretched canvas.
The painting began as an experimental work that has evolved into a painting about planets and the universe.
Following on from ‘Feeling Free’, an earlier exploration of non-figurative painterly effects, this particular work had developed organically from pure abstraction to a more structured and defined composition. While the primary focus of the previous work was mostly to do with the painting process rather than the final outcome, here it became all about the end result.
The painterly effects resulting from experimentation with a variety of materials ultimately determined the direction for the artwork to follow.
Gradually colours and patterns began to resemble the charachteristics and surfaces found on some planets in the cosmos, and that development went on to set the theme for the painting.  It is not a literal representation, but rather an imaginary, ‘Parallel Universe’ on canvas.
The painting continues around the sides of the canvas and does not require an outer frame.
