The Great Barrier Reef is an incredibly biodiverse ecosystem, with over 600 species of coral. For this piece I was so inspired by the different colours, textures, sizes and species of coral I selected a handful of difference shapes and textures to try and capture a small section of the vast detail on the reef. Each animal in this illustration is a real species, drawn with as much detail and accuracy to the actual animal as possible.
This original illustration was drawn using Derwent Procolour pencils on 100% cotton watercolour paper. The drawing itself is 29.7 x 42 cm (A3) and is framed in a simple light coloured, sustainable wooden frame (3 cm wide at the face and 2 cm deep from the side) with white mat board framing the image. Dimensions including the frame are 56 cm x 46 cm.
