Additional Information

Continuous Muse is an original painting on stretched canvas by Marijke Lambregtse

‘In mythology, the Muses were nine goddesses who symbolized the arts and sciences. Today, a muse is a person who serves as an artist’s inspiration. Writers, painters, musicians, and other artists have muses. Muse can also refer to thinking deeply. If you muse about something, you’re giving it serious thought. You can’t muse in five seconds. People muse on certain ideas for years’.
Continuous Muse is inspired by the drawings I made in a draw along workshop with Bill Platz. She is a follow up work from Muse. Although it doesn’t represent the model fully, I tried to recreate the atmosphere and create a certain mood I felt then. What is she thinking, is she contemplating about something in the past or in the future. Is she concerned about something like the environment or just reflecting on a beautiful memory. It could be anything.

Also an inspiration was the female painter Helene Schjerfbeck, a Finnish modernist painter who did not receive a favorable reception until later in her life.

Most of her is finger painted.
