Cheeky Cow by Jules Baldwin – My Art is very much related to my imagination as much as it is to my love of nature and all the wonder that is to be found within
My mark making is a way to show the energy surrounding us all and I have found myself intuitively drawing with a sense of joy and freedom that has definitely become much more present in my work since arriving back from our trip around Oz. Forever intertwined with all there is, what I see and what I feel as I realise that my connection to nature has strengthened and with it my need to show all that is felt as well as seen informing my Art more than ever.

Cheeky cow is part of the Moor’al series, a re imagining of many of the studies I painted for various different markets and venues as I was travelling. I have three cows in this colourful series, all of them representing the beautiful creatures we encountered on our many camping spots. We stayed with a really lovely couple on their cattle station in QLD for a few weeks as I painted and Dave (my husband) renovated their laundry, living in a remote area as they did means a tradesman is like gold, they treated him as such and would have had us stay there for much longer! Cheeky cow is in fact the most beautiful calf who was sick with dysentery when we were at the station and I helped to feed and fuss over as he was recovering. I fell in love ( I am a non meat eater by the way) and made sure to visit daily, this baby was very cheeky, hence the name, head butting me and sticking his tongue out as I would try and pet him! He recovered well with much love and attention from the station owners and their family. Whilst we do not eat meat we spent many hours talking to the whole family on our views and they in turn told us about their family history of cattle farming, we didn’t always agree but we respected each others opinion, a learning curve for us all.
