Additional Information

Byzantium (Arcadia) by Minuella Chapman – The Byzantium (Arcadia) series of colour photographic prints is inspired in part by the iconography of Greco-Roman sculpture.

The series was photographed early one morning, in the Sydney suburb of Glebe, and is reminiscent of a momentary glimpse from a still taken from a baroque sculpture or painting.

One of my passions is baroque art and architecture – for this project, I blended contemporary photographic techniques with motifs of memory, landscape and the classical beauty of byzantine sculptures.  Conceptually, the work functions as a commentary on baroque motifs in historic literature, art and architecture.

Created from a staged photo shoot, with the location, model and costumes sourced prior to the commencement.  I managed and undertook all of the pre-planning such as location scouting, costume design + making and lighting.

The 4 panels are hand coloured limited edition photographs,  printed on Arches 300gsm Aquarelle Watercolour 100% cotton paper.

Commissions welcome for larger photographic prints – available upon request.
