  • bus stop on the new estate

Additional Information

Conceptually, Bus Stop on the New Estate appears to me as a seesaw; a balancing act between the dark detail of the seated figure and the bright open nothingness of the yet to be built housing estate. The bus stop sign and the tap represent the full potential of what is yet to be realised. Its a bold, striking work with lots of layers and texture. It was inspired by a new housing estate being built in the hinterland near me. The land had all been cleared of trees and all the infrastructure was being laid – roads, pipes, electricity etc, but there were no houses or parks just a bus stop sign for all the people who didn’t live there yet! It seemed a funny thing to put in first.
