Bottled up, original mixed media painting by Marijke Lambregtse

Getting back into my more impressionistic multi-dimensional style which sits better with me; it’s more spontaneous working with lines, shapes and colours. The concept of the found objects, particularly bottles, jars and vessels has had my interest for a long time. Besides found objects, vessels being especially interesting to me as they have additional meaning. My solo exhibition at Doggett Street in Brisbane was called Vessels and based on Gandhi’s saying that women are vessels of self sacrifice. When looking at this new painting some told me they saw an inner path that leads to the heart (there’s a lone viewer in there too) and that we are all bottles and containers of different scents and substance. Absolutely right! The bottles in the painting I filled with sacred things to me: trees, leaves of beautiful plants and flowers. I collaged some beautiful bougainville flower leaves in I kept after we had to cut the gorgeous plant down as it was suffocating our jacaranda tree. Just to remind me and all of us how delicate the environment is and how we have to treasure it for times to come.

Ready to hang and signed at the front and back.
