Shipwrecks in Australia.
I recently combined my passion of the Houtman Abrolhos Islands, off the Western Australian Coast, with my fascination of the Batavia shipwreck. This particular piece captures the evening after the ship ran aground when the ship was still fairly intact but beyond re floating. At this time, the wind began to blow hard from the North West as it can in these parts during winter season.
‘Abandoned on Morning Reef’ is the third and final piece of the series titled ‘Batavia Aground’. I have thoroughly enjoyed the journey of researching and painting the trilogy and the time line of events on that tragic day in June 1629 when The Batavia was shipwrecked.
I have been overwhelmed with public interest in this subject, with the three original (oil on canvas) works been sold to private collectors prior to being exhibited. I now have Limited Edition digital canvas prints available of the original full series, so you can still own your piece of Western Australian history.
The prints sold to Perth buyers are on (stretched) canvas with UV archival coating and ready to hang. For interstate or international buyers, the canvas prints (with UV archival coating) will be professionally rolled and mailed (costs quoted prior to finalisation of purchase).
The Batavia Aground Trilogy Limited Edition prints are available in three sizes:
88cm x 60.5cm (H) x 0.5cm
