One off, hand inked and printed Banksia Robur leaves with pencil drawing of a bottlebrush. A fun combination of my fascination with our extraordinary Australian native plants combing printing and drawing. This is the result of how a planned day at the print studio went in an entirely different direction after parking next to a Banksia roadside tree. What was interesting in the printing process was the way in which the different stages of leaf maturity were affected by the inking and finished print. It was a bit of a goldilocks story – the newest softest leaves soaked up too much ink and were quite delicate to work with – wrapping round the roller threatening to tear, the oldest leaves were too hardened to give a good result going through the press whilst of course the semi hardened leaves were just right.
