‘Awakening to Patience’ is a self portrait created after a long period of what could best be described as ‘the dark night of the soul.’

From the Latin word ‘pati’ – to suffer, I chose the title to illustrate the arduous process of attempting to understanding this dark journey…. awakening, as it were, to the possible meaning behind the suffering.

The gesture of despair and submission, surrender and transformation, narrates the mythical tale.

“Oh that I had wings like a dove, then I could fly away and be at rest”….. text, snake skin and other found objects help tell the story of transformation.

This work is one of recognition of the dark places at times navigated in this human condition.

It is also a celebration of what can lay waiting for us after waking from the trial.
