Africa I Altiora Petamus by Bodhi Del Mar – Australian photographer. This artwork is part of a working series “The Africa Collection.” This surreal body of work explores our many levels of consciousness and the concept that we are neither superior nor separate from nature. It seeks to shine a light into our deepest subconscious patterns of behaviour and how our disconnect from the natural world is ultimately a disconnect from our higher selves. It invites a moment to muse; what structures have we created that keep us from our true nature? How better may we rise to meet our authentic selves? It is only from dreaming that we are able to awaken.
My 2015 expedition to Africa is the inspiration for this series. All the animals depicted are wild and were photographed in their natural habitats while on safari in Botswana. The grand palatial residence in which they find themselves is the grandiose Victoria Falls Hotel in Zimbabwe which I ravished with my camera during an overnight stay. Each artwork is a digital composite of dozens of my own photographs and illustrations which have been meticulously and painstakingly crafted together, some taking over 100 hours to create.
