Additional Information

A Surreal Transformation by Susannah Paterson – I don’t mean to be maudlin or anything, and you may have noticed anyway, but most of my paintings are about death and transformation. Really, it’s more of the latter, since I strongly believe in rebirth of some kind – as in “when one door closes, another opens” . So as 2023 begins, I have been thinking about what I will let go of (or what will let go of me) and what/how I want to transform .

Meantime, I’m watching beautiful little Chilli Dog, the moodle I inherited from my beloved mentor Kerrie Lester, begin to struggle with her body. She is 17, which is very old for a wee dog.
I wonder where in the garden we will bury her, and hope that Kerrie will be waiting for her as she crosses the bridge. Then I think about all the other dogs I have had in my life, and how we have always planted them near or under a tree and how I have always imagined their DNA must become part of that tree. This is what my painting is expressing.

Oil On Wooden Panel, white gesso painted edges (can be a different colour if desired).

Unframed (it would look great in one)
