The Western world changed totally at this time and divided into The Past and The Pill generations.  In this scene teeny weeny itsy bitsy bikinis were being inspected by a fatherly figure with the measuring ruler.  He checked to see if the width of the outside leg of a bikini was 3 inches or more.  If not, he would banish the brazen hussy to the fence outside the beach. The position became redundant in 1961.  One event that changed Western civilization totally was the introduction of The Pill.  The transition period rattled all the cages and came about very rapidly.  Here told through the ladylike one-piece with cap and the green bikini.  The beach inspector though was the odd man out with a foot in both sides.  He had to go – and he did.

My aim here is to create a scene which hints at these changes.  The ubiquitous blue esky, those swimming caps with floppy flowers worn with the ‘one-piece’ swimmers.  The VW, the combi and the Modern caravans set the date well.  The allegory of the bubbles I leave to you.
