I paint impressions of the human form. My art is bright and colourful with a hint of melancholy- just like life! You might discover yourself or somebody you know within the shapes of my work.
I was born in England but came to Australia when I was 6 months old. I live on the Northern Beaches in Sydney, otherwise known as paradise. I began drawing and painting when I was very young, honing my eye by copying illustrations on greeting cards and wrapping paper.
I took art as a major in high school and was chosen to exhibit in the state school exhibition at the Art Gallery of NSW. Learning about the various art styles, it was the Impressionists that had the most impact on me. I loved the idea of representing reality rather than trying to capture it; although it took me many years before I developed my style and stopped trying to capture what I saw exactly as it appeared.
I am ostensibly self-taught )with a few short courses along the way) and have always painted with oils. However as acrylics have developed in quality and function, I’ve begun using them as well.
I paint impressions of the human form. I’m fascinated by the human shape and the emotions it can convey through a simple gesture, tilt of a head or particular stance. The inspiration for my art comes equally from my imagination, what I see and photos I take. My art is bright and colourful with a hint of melancholy- just like life! You’ll discover yourself or somebody you know or maybe just a memory within the shapes of my work. My art is influenced by human interaction with each other and sometimes with the environment around me. Everything in my art symbolises something – I love to see how other people interpret these clues. It doesn’t matter what I’m trying to convey- whatever you feel when looking at one of my painting is exactly the right way to respond to my art. Feel, and I’ll be satisfied.
