It’s all about shapes and colours for me. They are a great way of depicting my ideas in the simplest way possible. I believe by stripping things back to their bare minimum, I can still convey my message, and produce a painting that is more open to interpretation by the viewer.

Colour, shapes, and a bit of soul.
We had art classes when I started high school. In the first lesson we had to remove one of our shoes and draw it. The following week the teacher referred to an excellent drawing by Richard Ranson (That’s ME!). For all art classes after that I pretty much just joked around and daydreamed of being a rock star. In 2002 we sold our house in Sydney and travelled much of Australia.
It was around this time that I started painting. I chose acrylic paint as that was the easiest and cleanest medium to use when living and travelling in a caravan.
Settling with my wife Sue, in Charleville in 2005, it was another 10 years before I got seriously into painting, finally realising that painting is not hard, it’s just our brains that
make it that way, and colour, shape and a little bit of soul is all you really need. Oh and just for the record, I never became a rock star!
Hope you get some pleasure from my paintings.
