Raynette first started painting as a hobby about 20 years ago but it quickly turned into a passion and now she can’t stop. She loves painting in oil and painting from virtually any reference material, from au plein air, live models, photos, still life, and even her imagination.
Born and raised in Sydney, Raynette worked in the corporate world and her own business for many years. However, following a life-changing decision, she moved to the Sunshine Coast of Queensland and began to paint.
Raynette’s favoured medium is oil on canvas. She believes the silky, buttery feel of applying oil paint to canvas is that happy place where all good paintings begin. Her subjects are diverse and have a universal appeal as she believes that painting in different genres and styles keeps her work fresh and interesting, something for everyone.
She particularly enjoys portraiture, both people and animals, and has entered the Archibald Exhibition in Sydney 3 times. However, she is also comfortable immersing herself in a landscape. Her love of colour is obvious in all her work, but it’s her understanding of light and shadow which is the foundation of each and every painting whether it’s a sensitive impression of the Australian bush, a commissioned portrait for a special client, or an atmospheric sunlit beach scene.
Raynette draws inspiration from many sources:
•Local artists – Bill McKay, Gabi Dick, Trish Bradford.
•The masters – John William Waterhouse, Frederick McCubbin, John Singer Sargent
•Master portraitist Paul Newton and contemporary painter Jack Vettriano
•She particularly loves art of the American West and is constantly inspired and amazed by the talent of painters such as Harley Brown, and especially Howard Terpning, whose paintings of the American Indians are legendary.
