Oral Roberts is third generations Widjabal (Lismore) clan. Oral was born on the Cubawee Mission and lived there for the first 2 years of his life. The Mission was a safe place with a strong family connection to Bundjalung land, culture and spirit. His paintings express this strong connection to spirit and the bush where many of the bird species and local totem animals he paints are native. His outstanding work continuously evolves. He has murals on public sites in Lismore and Nimbin where his work adorns the area above the shop fronts of the Hemp Embassy and Town Hall. His work is also displayed in hospitals particularly Lismore hospital where his large mural adorns the Mental Health area entrance. His paintings also adorn the walls of the hospital. Southern Cross University also hold his artworks for public display. He is the ‘Master of Bundjalung’ and is well known in the region and in Sydney. His work features on the new Ballina M1 Highway on the overpasses and around the beach front of Ballina on new Council signs at the beach. He is one of the foremost Aboriginal artists of the Northern Rivers region. His works are also held by local galleries, Grafton and Lismore have his work in their collections.
