Shoal Bay, NSW
Megan Barrass is best known for her strong, Australian coastal themed paintings, along with her bold floral artworks; with luscious coloured, brush strokes of acrylic paint onto large scale canvases.
Megan is a full-time contemporary artist, living and continuously painting in beautiful Shoal Bay, Port Stephens, NSW. Working in the creative field is her life. Firstly with a diploma of Graphic Design and then 30 years’ experience in the fine art world; creating large format painterly style artworks for modern homes and commercial projects.
Best known for her strong, typically Australian coastal themed paintings, along with her bold floral artworks; with a generous use of luscious coloured, brush strokes of acrylic paint onto large scale canvases.
The artwork is definitely a direct response from her environment. Scenes that we all experience, capture her attention, drawing the viewer in to focus on and explore the moment. Such as, the visual delights that snorkelling offers, while on holiday; actually seeing the local octopus in its home; going to the beach, with the colourful umbrellas and beach towels; going bush walking and seeing the Australian fauna and wildlife; visiting the flower shop or simply enjoying a vase of fresh flowers.
By using sketches and photography for her observational studies, Megan will collage the moments together to construct a narrative.
Her work addresses ways of celebrating life. The aim is to create images so others can visually share the passion and optimism.
