2011-12
2011 I ran 4 (eckersleys and Collingwood gallery) exhibitions in Melbourne out of 2 galleries in the city mostly group shows. Some of those exhibitors are now famous Australian artists. In 2012 I lived in Phuket and worked for the publication out of Singapore think design magazine . Living in a hotel paid by an artist. I was one of the curators for them of a 200 artist strong international exhibition held at Phuket Royal Marina. Flying back to Australia to run a exhibition for an Australian artist in the city then returning to Phuket to respresent expat artists. From 2012 to now I’ve run many group exhibitions mostly with my art involved also. Looking back on this Sunday briefly I was attacked for not having degrees or masters in arts and little experience yet the learn as you go motto helped. Some shows were massively successful some tiny and not ever a waste of energy etc.
I remember running a show at Collingwood gallery. A curator dressed to the nines from university walked in and said could she talk to the owner. My reply why? She started telling me her university achievements knowing full well I was the curator and she wanted to apply to be the curator.
So I said he’s up the stairs.
She came back after ten minutes infuriated and walked out the door.
I said to the owner what happened he replied I told her for 10 minutes to fuckoff.
I believe art culture is as I thought back then crucial to a positive progressive society. The current flooded market I see as somewhat fascinating and not as negative as often thought. Art is fresh and yes there’s heaps out there inspired and amazing and shit. Yet culturally art has taken a real foothold in Australia and elsewhere so it can’t be all that bad.
2017- assisted indigenous artists in art show on Mornington peninsula.
2014 – did a talk at The University of Melbourne addressing mental health in a galleries practical setting. The class of to be curators.
