Karen Blackwell is a Brisbane Artist following her creative passion and painting her subconscious musings.
Artworks: 3
After engaging in soulless activities (earning dollars to eat sleep and live), returning to Art full-time , has been sublime. It was either that or slip into madness’
Karen’s art is playful and intuitive. The canvas, marks, feelings, and subconscious musings show her the way. Of late, there are hints of surrounding landscapes the mountains, valleys, and creeks. Childhood memories of camping, swimming and hiking in the Victorian Alps also abound. Some days there is lightness other days a little more muted.
Colour is Karen’s thing, as it makes ‘the heart sing’. She uses Acrylic and other mixed media because it is vibrant, expressive, malleable and forgiving. Paint application and marks vary, some bold, some gentle and everything in between. Karen likes to have fun, experiment and continues to grow . So come on a journey and enjoy her musings.
Currently painting at the Brisbane Institute of Art in a figurative class and regularly attends local and international online workshops. Karen has won some local prizes for both figurative and landscape paintings most recently a Finalist in Lethbridge 20000 in June 2022.
