I studied ancient history and archaeology at Uni, so consequently I was profoundly influenced by the tomb paintings of Egypt, the statuary of Greece and the friezes of Persia. I like to paint people doing things and I try to represent them caught in a split second of drama.

My paintings have been included among the finalists of the Wynne Prize, the Sulman Prize (at the Art Gallery of NSW) and the Blake Prize for religious art. I was involved in numerous exhibitions at Salmon Galleries (Sydney) and in 2001 I was Artist in Residence at the Griffis Art Institute (Connecticut). I took a break from painting to concentrate on writing and was the film critic for the Byron Shire Echo 2007-2019. I have written and directed three short films and in 2007 was awarded a script development grant from Screen Australia for a feature length movie. Also in that year, I was included in the Australian Sports Commission’s media awards for my cricket writing. In the last 18 months I have gone back to my first love of painting.
