Jennifer Webb, Artist in residence at Port Art Gallery is well known for Melbourne inspired paintings and also continues with two other long term major series, Ocean inspired and figure paintings which have been ongoing since childhood.
This Melbourne artist has been consistently creating paintings inspired by her city, portraying various water views around Melbourne city since her nostalgic return from living outside of Australia.
Seeing Melbourne through new eyes had renewed her long term endearment to the city as a source of inspiration in her paintings. Ocean and figure subjects appear in her other series, also long term, but throughout recent years the skylines have dominated. In the most recent direction in this neo-impressionistic series, her chosen theme (Melbourne skylines) still inspires and the scenes are stripped back and reinterpreted into their most basic and essential abstracted shapes. These studies in implied line, form and colour also have a focus on shapes, spaces, ambience and mood with hints of recognisable landmarks as subtle yet significant focal points.
In addition, a Brisbane inspired series has emerged in the last few years and she also continues with her paintings of the ocean and figure paintings, mostly by commission. Many of her art works are available here as affordable limited edition mixed media hand finished canvas works.
