Melbourne based artist Jennifer Webb has been consistently creating paintings inspired by her favourite cities, portraying various water views with iconic features since her nostalgic return from living outside of Australia.
Seeing Melbourne through new eyes had renewed her long term endearment to the city as a source of inspiration in her paintings, and over a few years her signature approach developed. Other cities followed. Ocean and figure subjects appear in her other series, also long term, but throughout recent years the skylines have dominated.
The broad vistas are stripped back and reinterpreted into their most basic and essential simplified shapes. Her style was once coined ‘rectangularism’ by another artist. These studies in implied line, form and colour also have a focus on shapes, spaces, ambience and mood with hints of recognisable landmarks as subtle yet significant focal points. A colour master, she devises harmonious schemes to further portray a given mood and has long utilised metallics to add alternative views in different lighting.
Brisbane and Sydney inspired series have emerged in the last few years and she also continues with her paintings of the ocean and figure paintings, mostly by commission. Many of her art works are available here as affordable limited edition mixed media hand finished canvas works in addition to originals.
Commissions including for outdoor areas are also available through Art Lovers Australia.
