Jeanne Cotter is a Queensland artist, she paints and draws in soft pastel in a traditional realist style.
Art and design have been an integral part of Jeanne’s life, from her fist job as a visual display artist at Myer and David Jones in the 1980s, to calligraphy, ticket writing and folk art. In the early 2000s Jeanne studied graphic design and marketing and then pursued a career as a graphic designer for twenty years.
She discovered the textures and colours of soft pastels in 2010 and since that time she joined two art tours in Italy where she got to paint in the streets with fellow artists. That experience opened her eyes to the beauty of Italy and she fell madly in love with the sights, sounds, textures and light. So much so, she went back a second time for another art tour and has visited again since.
“Being an artist changes the way you see the world. Now I have so much more awareness of the scenes and objects around me, the lights and shadows in nature take my breath away. That’s what I aim to do with my art, I want to evoke emotion, whether that’s awe, or joy or sadness, so that the viewer feels something when they view my art.”
Recently Jeanne and her husband retired to Toowoomba, where she can now paint full time and find the awe in the everyday.
