Oil Painting and mixed media drawing. I have been painting for 34 years, before which I was a practicing sculptor and installation artist. Over thirty years my studio research has evolved to embrace the concept of totalised time and stratified memory. I explore historical references to create philosophical and ideological threads through time.

Over thirty years my studio research has evolved to embrace the concept of totalised time and stratified memory. I explore historical references to create philosophical and ideological threads through time. In figurative work I use folk narrative to focus on group cohesion, conformity and shared presumptions to create humorous anecdotes about social contexts. In more traditional genres, in my landscape work, I like to focus on the significance of location to family history and social history. This extends the subject matter I have explored in my previous figurative series entitled Groupthink [2008-2016]. I initially used linear expressionist acrylic painting in the early 1990s which evolved into traditional oil painting techniques reminiscent of the Baroque Masters, C19th Romanticists and Pre-Raphaelites.
