Dianne’s artwork expresses a bold application of colour, texture and shape combining impulse with considered marks. For the first 2-3 layers of a painting she works from a place of fun and imaginative play, mark-making, scraping, adding and removing, using spray paint and drawing with pens, pencils, crayons and various tools, developing an intuitive dialogue with the work. Then, the more serious editing process begins, where the more formal elements of composition, focal points, differences and tonal values together with the considered application of oil paint come into play. Resulting in colourful abstract oil paintings, with a richness to their surface materiality. This is her creative process.
Dianne’s bold abstract paintings are inspired by the various environments, imagined and real, environmental, psychological, domestic and industrial landscapes she has experienced in her life journeys.
