The origins of my inventive paintings can be found in my intimate delicate drawings, collages which capture just as much liveliness on their small scale as the large canvasses.
In the studio I experiment with automatic writing, drawing, play, chance, and visual games, as inspired by Surrealist and Dadaist methodologies to set free images and ideas. These improvised methods reveal surprising juxtapositions which bring a sense of wonder and discovery that shape my visual and narrative decision-making.
The forms of my abstract painting draws on silhouettes of actual and imagined people. I wanted to create a playful space for my viewers to inhabit. Playfulness underlies pure life enjoyment and a creative drive in the sense that the viewer is fully available and open to experiencing the world, establishing new patterns and combining actions and thoughts in new ways.
With a deep reverence for nature and the human experience, my art often blurs the lines between the organic and the abstract, infusing my pieces with a sense of ethereal beauty and wonder.
Through the medium of painting, I explore the interplay of colours, shapes, patterns and textures to convey emotions, memories, and dreams. Each stroke of my brush is a whisper of my inner world, an invitation for viewers to embark on their own personal journey of interpretation. My art is a dialogue between the observer and the observed. It is an invitation to explore the depths of one’s imagination, to question the boundaries of reality, and to find solace in the act of creation. Through my work, I hope to evoke emotions, spark curiosity, and inspire a renewed appreciation for the world that surrounds us.
Delia is also a finalist in the 2022 Art Lovers Australia Prize.
