Cory Acorn is originally from Canada but has called Australia home since 2011. Her formal education as an Electrical Engineer did not immediately lead her to the visual arts. Textiles, needlework, floral design and other craft interests did not present her any hint of the skills she now displays strongly in both drawing and painting. Faced with the economic downturn and job losses late in her career, Cory took to teaching herself through books, self-study, and online. Through hard work and a focused fine art training program, today, she is a fulltime professional artist whose universal appeal has found her artwork in homes and with collectors across the globe.
Cory’s earthy and bold artwork evokes wonder in the usual and sometimes unusual natural world around us. On canvas or paper her process typically begins with mark making and broad applications of acrylic colour but always ends in luxurious oil paint.
Cory Acorn works from her home studio in Nelson Bay, NSW with her muse, Ruby the bulldog, snoring somewhere nearby. With the pandemic she has turned her attention to the memories of travel in far off lands and exploring the local treasures in Port Stephens.
