About Amanda Skye

Welcome to my world, I am Amanda Skye. I come from a small sweet little town called Helensburgh in the Northern Illawarra region of NSW surrounded by beautiful bush, coastlines and wildlife which you can probably tell is the inspiration to many of my pieces. Coming from a creative family with 2 sisters , my mother is a clairvoyant medium while my father loves to build and tinker .I am mother of one , a beautiful little girl Amelia ,who loves to sit by my side in her own creative outlet and a partner to Steven who also has a background in colour coordination and painting , just not the canvas kind .

I’ve had an eventful life of careers starting in the zoological industry to travel agency to real estate and interior styling , very different from each other however I have always been a painter ,it is the air that I breath, I could not imagine my life without paint on my hands every day .

As you read this and have viewed my collection you will probably notice I am not an artist confined to a particular category, I enjoy painting flora, plants, wildlife and even portraiture. I love loose formations of colour however I have this keen eye to introduce some kind of detail at times. Then there is the other side, the fine art side both depicted on canvas and my feather art range.  Over many years I have developed alternative styles, but this is because of one particular reason which as you read on you will know exactly why. I love to experiment, I love the surprise, I love the imagination of being able to apply different elements to create a piece that somehow works in my eyes.

For a long time, I struggled with the fact that my art didn’t fit inside a category or align to a particular theme.

But then I realized that this is the point.

In life, none of us fit into a contained theme or style, and nor should art. Some days I wake up and want to paint messy images all day long, while other days a fine line sketch holds my interest. I suspect I will always be like this; it is not a stage I am going through. This approach simply reflects who I am.

The one constant in all of this is the person I create art for, at any given time. It is not for me to dictate a theme or style, instead it is the person’s soul that guides my work. Whether it is a landscape, a bird, a symbol, a feather or an abstract piece on canvas; I see my role as being present to listen and use my intuition – and then hand the paintbrush, pen; or whatever medium the piece dictates over to a higher source. With intuition at the centre of this conversation, the final piece always exceeds mine and their expectations.

While that may sound a little ‘woo woo’, I didn’t set out to create this intuitive process. In all other areas of life, I am unnervingly down to earth. I happily go make-up free, and I keep it very real in my messy studio – usually shared with my young daughter who likes to finger paint beside me. Yet I also come from a very spiritual family, and being self-taught as an artist, this intuitive process has found me.  My job is to simply honour this intuitive approach – out of respect for the person I am creating art for.

So, why do I choose to honour this slightly left-of-centre approach? Because art demands something deeper in all of us. It is deeply personal. If my work can become a conduit for someone to have their most inner values – or loved ones – symbolised on canvas as a lifelong legacy; then this is what I will do. Whatever category that falls into. I just couldn’t work any other way.

When I’m not working on commissions, I am passionate about bringing art to as many people as possible. I know the transformative power of art, and I don’t want cost to be a prohibitive factor. This is why my range of feather paintings, botanical and wildlife prints are designed to adapt to as many environments as possible, while still being individual in their approach. Art should be enjoyed by everybody, and it is my wish that these bespoke pieces enjoy a long and happy life on the walls of as many people as possible.

I hope you enjoy the collection!
