“The Conjurer’s Hands”

Pencil, ink and oil on canvas.  This painting includes two representations of my own hands.  My left after it had an argument with a heavy sliding door.  And my right, outstretched, conjuring.  Hands are of particular fascination for me for many reasons.  The act of creating art is a conjuring in itself, the making of something from nothing, which is what I love most about making art.  It is pure magic.

Also, to most Artists, the hands are one of the most difficult parts of the anatomy to draw and perfect.  I enjoy the challenge of the hand, and the pure symbolism of the hands.  From symbols of violence, struggle and oppression to peace, prayer and love, an artist could spend his or her entire life, studying them, drawing them, painting them.  These are mine.
