As one of my Grounded Series in part this piece speaks of my connection to the earth and nature to which I have always been closely aligned.

On a recent trip to the Flinders Ranges in South Australia I was struck by the number of animals that had met with an unfortunate end on the roads of this vast area. Through the horror of the bloody vision regularly encountered I was surprised to also discover a solemn beauty left behind in the form of the bones, hence the idea of the animal skull theme.

This piece is one of my tributes to the very wise Sitting Bull (Tȟatȟáŋka Íyotake) (1831-1890), Hunkpapa chief and holy man

“For us, warriors are not what you think of as warriors. The warrior is not someone who fights, because no one has the right to take another life. The warrior, for us, is one who sacrifices himself for the good of others. His task is to take care of the elderly, the defenseless, those who can not provide for themselves, and above all, the children, the future of humanity” – Sitting Bull

I hope you have enjoyed viewing my piece as much as I enjoyed creating it!
