Additional Information

Have you ever wanted to experiment with the beautiful ancient medium of encaustic (hot beeswax) without having to outlay for equipment and materials upfront? Gayle is a qualified teacher, and is available to take up to four students at a time in her studio in the Gold Coast for one, two or three. Nearby accommodation can be suggested for students not living locally, in Mudgeeraba, Robina, Nerang and other nearby places. Burleigh and Currumbin is just 15 - 20 minutes away.   With a maximum of four students per workshop, lessons are highly personalised for students of all levels with techniques including image transfers, embedding, colour, collage, pan pastels, shellac burn, smooth or texture and much more.  Prior experience is not necessary.   All materials for workshops are supplied, including 3+ primed boards, encaustic medium, pigments for colour and much more.  All you need to bring is an apron or protective clothing and your lunch.  Morning tea will be provided.  No experience necessary.   I recommend a minimum of two days.  One day will cover the essentials and enough information and technique to get started and to learn about equipment, supplies, basic techniques and safety. Two or three days will be more comprehensive and cover a lot more techniques and allow you to develop some work further. It will also cover how to make encaustic medium.   Contact Gayle to arrange mutually convenient dates. Encaustic is derived from the Greek word "enkaustikos meaning "to burn in".  The medium is comprised or raw beeswax and damar resin or castor wax, with colour pigments added.  Heat is employed throughout the entire process.
