This colourful abstracted seascape is a study of where the ocean hits the shoreline, and the outgoing tide exposes the reef formations covered in algae and seaweed. Artwork created from photos and sketches made on walks along the Marmion Marine Park in Perth.
My painting practice celebrates my love of the Australian landscape and my emotional responses to it. Inspired by the colours of my childhood in the Goldfields, holidays to the Pilbara, and living on the rugged south coast, I seek to capture the vibrancy and vastness that is the Australian landscape as I have moved through it over the course of my lifetime. Colour, place and memory are merged in my explorations of places, real, remembered and imagined.
Vibrant expressive colour, flattened picture plane and aerial view, create intentionally abstracted, yet recognisable landscapes and seascapes. The viewer is encouraged to call on their own sense of place, their own relationship with landscape, as they engage in a unique way with each painting.
