MEET THE JUDGES

SUSI MUDDIMAN OAM

Director – Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre

Susi1

Susi Muddiman OAM is currently Director, Tweed Regional Gallery & Margaret Olley Art Centre in Murwillumbah. She has previously worked as Director of Grafton and Wagga Wagga Regional Galleries. Twenty years in directorship roles have involved working across a wide range of visual arts activities, as well as securing financial sustainability.

Susi is a member of Create NSW Visual Arts Board and is a Committee member of Regional & Public Galleries NSW, having earlier served as President. Susi has curated numerous exhibitions and has been the recipient of professional development grants including a Gordon Darling Foundation travel grant to investigate re-creations of artists’ studios. This research informed the development of the Margaret Olley Art Centre as a purpose-built extension to the TRG incorporating the re-creation of Margaret Olley’s Paddington home studio.

Susi was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia in the Australia Day Honours List 2015 and is listed as one of Australia’s 50 most influential people in the arts.

Jo-Anne Driessens is a Koa – Kuku Yalangi person with historical connections to South East Queensland, including connections to Yarrabah and (Barambah) Cherbourg Aboriginal Communities due to the removal policies endured by her Great Grandparents. Having grown up in Brisbane and adopted by a white family, the blood family connections began via an interest in photography during the late 80’s. In 1999 Jo-Anne completed a 4 year cadet-ship at the State Library of Queensland (SLQ), and then continued on for another eleven years to learn and develop new skills throughout the various departments of SLQ. Jo-Anne was previously the Senior Arts and Culture Project Officer within the City of Gold Coast Arts for 7 years and has recently joined Placemakers, a leading independent Arts organisation on the Gold Coast and joined the team to deliver the 2020 Bleach Festival in a newly established position as First Nation Curator.

Entry Information:

  • Entry is FREE and non-acquisitive.
  • Artists need to have original work or photography for sale on the Art Lovers Australia website and adhere to the Art Lovers Australia Terms of Service.
  • Only one artwork by an artist can be selected for the shortlist.
  • A shortlist of approximately 150 artworks will be announced Sunday, 3rd January 2021
  • A single artist cannot win multiple prizes of those listed above.
  • Only artworks created by the artist selling on Art Lovers Australia can be selected.
  • Only artworks uploaded (for the 1st time) after 1st January and before December 10th 2020, to the Art Lovers Australia website are eligible.
  • Artists will need to nominate an artwork by uploading it to their profile banner before the 10th December 2020.
  • Shortlisted work must be exclusive to Art Lovers Australia once shortlisted and must remain exclusive until 1st March, 2021.
  • Work sold on other websites or through other sources are ineligible.
  • Art shortlisted may be sold through Art Lovers Australia during the competition, this will not affect the judging or make your work ineligible.
  • Winners will be announced Sunday 7th February 2021

ALA Prize Voting Process:

  • The Art Lovers Australia team will create a shortlist of  approximately 150 eligible artworks to present to the judging panel and the public.
  • Judging will be done by a judging panel.
  • The judging panel, from the shortlist of approximately 150, will individually vote for their favourite 20 artworks from 20 to 1 with their favourite piece being awarded 20 points, 2nd favourite 19 points and so on.

ALA People’s Choice Award:

  • Only artworks originally published to the Art Lovers Australia website after 1st January 2020 and prior to 10th December 2020 are eligible to win the People’s Choice Award.
  • The winner as voted online by Art Lovers Australia subscribers.
  • Voting closes 31st January, 2021 at 5pm (Qld. Time)

ALA Voting Prize:

  • The winner will receive
    • $1,000 voucher to spend on the Art Lovers Australia website.
  • Voters will select their 5 favourite artworks from the shortlist of approximately 150 artworks.
  • You must be an Art Lovers Australia subscriber.
  • You do not have to be an artist or have work for sale on Art Lovers Australia to be eligible to win the Voting Prize.
  • The winner will be selected by a random draw from the pool of those eligible.
  • Voting closes 31st January, 2021 at 5pm (Qld. Time)

ALA Category Prizes:

  • The remaining artworks from the shortlist after the main prizes have been allocated will be eligible for the Category Prizes.
  • Votes will be combined from the judging panel and the People’s Choice vote.
  • The artwork with the highest number of points from the combined votes in each category will be deemed the winner of that category.
